The Canton of Westland Mor and neighboring groups are sponsoring a demo at the annual Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival held from July 3rd through 6th at the Twin Lakes Park in Greensburg, PA! Come for an hour! Come for a day! Come for the whole weekend! This annual event draws a crowd from southwest Pennsylvania of close to 100,000 souls. It is a wonderful opportunity to show the population the joy of the SCA. A&S displays, Heavy Weapons, and Light Weapons are expected. The event opens at 11:00 am daily and closes at 8:00 pm. There is no charge to enter this Festival. There is limited camping available at Twin Lakes, so please contact the autocrat, Otto (Lee Clapp) if interested. Parking is also limited. Once again, please contact Otto to set up parking and/or transportation from one of the parking areas in Greensburg. There are food vendors at the festival, eating establishments close by, and probably a BBQ after hours at the demo site. This is a dry site. Otto / Lee can be contacted at 724-832-9734 (no later than 10:00pm please) or at lee@paintedarmies.com. Directions to Twin Lakes Park: From Route 30, turn onto Donohoe Road at the light for Westmoreland Mall near Greensburg. (This is a right turn if heading West and a left turn when traveling East.) After turning from the highway, turn right to stay with Donohoe Road (passing the Toys-R-Us on your left). Continue straight through a traffic light and two stop signs. Just after the second stop sign, make a left at the sign for Twin Lakes Park. Follow the signs. Or contact Otto @ 724-972-3103 (cell phone) For more information about the Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival, please see http://www.artsandheritage.com/overview.htm. Please come and join us in this fun demo that gives the SCA an icredible amount of exposure! Dave Chappel, at 814-266-1347 or mistresscynthia@verizon.net) - Because this is a three fold occasion - Baronial Champs, Baronial Birthday and Demo, Their Excellencies request that everyone attend in their finest garb. Good Lords and Ladies: Please mark your calendars for July 12, 2008, as that is the date we have set with the Galleria for doing our event/demo. For those of you who were unable to make the meeting, we thought we would approach this demo a bit differently and actually hold an event there. This will be our Baronial Champions Event. If the weather is with us, we will be setting up in the large (extremely large), grassy area behind the mall between Boscovs and Sears. We should like to set up pavilions as well as a tournament area complete with pennons/banners/etc. We will also have displays of A&S items, Armor, calligraphy and illumination, the usual stuff that we display at a demo. Inside, we will have a somewhat smaller presence at the old fountain site with some displays and TV/VCR running the Pennsic XX (edited) video. If anyone has a newer DVD on Pennsic, we will be able to provide a DVD player as well and alternate the videos. We will need to take turns manning this station, because most of our activity will be going on outside, but we will take some time to do processions in the mall with maybe some fencing or fighting at those times just to encourage people to come out back. However, if the weather is bad, everything will be done inside at the old fountain site on the first floor. There is quite a bit of space there, so I think we will still be able to put up Connor's indoor pavilion and do the event from there. As far as we know, there is nothing else scheduled for the mall that weekend. I would like to encourage everyone to dig out your best garb for this special occasion. It will be our Baronial Birthday Party as well and, who knows, there may be some cake and ice cream... Anyone with any suggestions or ideas for this event/demo, please do not hesitate to contact myself, Baron Quinn, or Lady Emily, our Seneschale. Thanks in advance for what I hope will be a fantastic turnout for our 10th year as a Barony. Sincerely and In Service, Vivienne, Baroness |
