Vivats to all the Champions, as well as participants!
Archery
Champion: Derrick the Wanderer
Fencing Champion: Lodovick of Grays Inn
Thrown Weapons Champion: Bob the Pirate
Heavy Weapons Champion: Corwyn ap Nennius
Greetings fellow Boggers,
Though it was a rainy and cool Tournament Day, our
Baronial Champions event went well!
We have been fortunate enough to have had beautiful days in the past but this
one chilly, rainy, boggy day may actually be one of the most remembered. There
was a nice turnout and I believe a very good time was had by all. Vivats to our
new champions! Lord Lodovick your fencing was very well done! Lord Derrick, their
Excellencies' felines would never go hungry with your keen eye and true aim with
the bow! Chivalry and honor was graciously displayed by our new heavy weapons
champion, Corwyn ap Nennius. (and no my lord, you didn't step on my foot.)
Nearly every Bogger present assembled at the thrown weapon butts to try their
hand. Bob the Pirate bested us all and once again is our champion. Many thanks
also to Bob the Pirate for his gracious donation of a fine Axe for Baronial use.
It will be carried by our Thrown Weapons Champion with great pride for it is a beautiful
weapon carrying a gallant name as only a weapon of it's caliber could.....Bob
the Axe.
Congratulations again to all our champions. Thanks to all the
participants who made the tournaments possible and fun for all involved. Thank
you Isteri and Lisa for the use of your castle and grounds. I'm looking forward
to seeing all our champions compete in the various Seven Pearls Tournaments. Good
luck to you all.

From the Baronial Fencing Marshal
Greetings!
We are at the eve of
another baronial champions event here in the Bog. I am looking forward to a
great tourney. Rest assured whoever the Baroness chooses will have the support
of the fencers for the July Pearls tourney. That's right, the baronies have
decided to allow the Bog to run the 7 Pearls Fencing Tourney again. We are proud
to have this honor once again.
It is also a time of
change here in the Bog. I would like to send good wishes to our regions new
Regional Marshal, Lodovick of Grays Inn. Congratulations! He is taking over for
the retired Dona Caroline. Likewise, I would like to announce that I am stepping
down as Baronial Fencing Marshal. Lord Kusar will be taking over the duties of
Baronial Marshal. Or as soon as our Regional approves him.. ha ha. It has been
great fun serving the Bog, and I will continue doing so as much as I can.

News from the Western Border
Report from the Western Border:
Greetings unto the populace of the Bog and beyond!
Several things were discussed at the October
gathering. Some forgotten business was brought up, including the desire to
use the money from the spring event's auction to purchase a book for Adams
Memorial Library.
We further discussed the idea of classes. A
suggestion was made to try having 10 minute workshops or demonstrations at the
beginning of each gathering. For instance, one of our members is a
storyteller, who could share one of his favorite stories and perhaps talk a
little about presentation; Rose could give a brief demonstration of card/tablet
weaving; or another member could talk about herbs. People interested in a
more in depth class on any of the topics offered, could then sign up for a future
class.
The last topic of conversation was on our meeting
place. All those assembled agreed that for the coming year, we should host
two gatherings at Ligonier Valley Library - January and June. This would
bring the gatherings a little closer to the majority of Boggers, plus, due to
Latrobe's community days, we have to relocate every June anyway.
The next gathering will be Tuesday, November 12 at
Adams Memorial Library (1112 Ligonier St., Latrobe, PA; 724-539-1972) from
6:30pm til 7:30pm. If you are unable to attend the gathering but wish
to contribute, then send your thoughts or questions to me (724-238-0114 or snowdragon1027@yahoo.com).

St. Swithin's Bog Twelfth
Night
January 18, 2003
Viva la France!
Viva la fleur de lys! Once again, we invite the Knowne World to join the Barony of St. Swithin’s Bog in celebrating our annual 12th Night event to be held on Saturday, January 18, 2003. The event will be held at our traditional site: Green Gables in Jennerstown, PA (no street address), an incredible, period-looking hall with stone walls, cathedral ceilings, parquet floors and mullioned windows covered with vines. To enhance our French theme, the wearing and displaying of fleur de lys is most encouraged!
Doors
will open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 9:00 p.m. As Green Gables is a commercial
restaurant with a liquor license, no alcohol can be brought on site; however,
the restaurant will provide a cash bar. For your enjoyment we will have a
luncheon sideboard, entertainment, the Bardic Competition, a sumptuous feast,
court and country dancing in the afternoon, plus our traditional auction.
Autocrat for the event is Dame Vivienne Marie de Beauvais (Pamela Faint, 136 Strayer St., Johnstown, PA
15906, 814-535-6394; ladyviv@gte.net) with Baroness Charmaine of Falkensee as co-autocrat and also entertainment
coordinator (Sally C. Fink, 331 Penn Ave., Johnstown, PA 15905; 814-255-5176; sphink@twd.net). If you have any dietary restrictions, please contact Dame Vivienne. If you wish to be part of our entertainment, please contact Baroness
Charmaine.
The
fee for this grand event will be $18.00 with a $3.00 discount if you bring an
auction item. (No off-board.) Halflings
(12 and under) will be half price at $9.00, but no auction discount. Make
checks payable to "SCA, Inc.—St. Swithin's Bog." Reservations are
