From the Seneschale

Our Barony will be hosting AEthelmearc's Fall AEcademy on November 6th. This is a great opportunity to take classes from the best scholars and artisans AEthelmearc has to offer. So listen, learn and then teach someone else what you have learned.
Next year will be the 20th anniversary of St. Swithin's Bog. Most of us haven't been around for the entire 20 years. I would like to compile a booklet of your favorite memories whether you have been here for 2 months, 2 years or since the beginning. I know my favorite memory is of an "exploding druid" from our wedding ceremony. Thank the stars Lord Minimoto wasn't hurt! So friends please write down some of your favorite memories and email them to me at cindleap@atlanticbb.net.
Only 37 more days until our daughter Carey is married, so please excuse me if I tend to be a bit absent minded.

Until next month
Katya

From the Chatelain

Good citizens of St. Swithins;

Last Sunday's, Ebensburg Demo went off really well. Although the weather was brisk and the wind was a nuisance, we still had between 30 - 40 mundanes come to see our presentation. I believe about 12 signed up for more info. We also had reporters from both the Mainline Newspapers and the Altoona Mirror; there taking photos. Brian Lecky (sp) from WJAC was there and we were on the evening news. So, we managed some nice publicity all around.
We had display tables of various items; including armor, weapons, books, heraldry and photos. We had demonstrations of armored combat, fencing and even a few dances.
My thanks to our Baron & Baroness, Quinn and Vivienne; Baroness Aelfra, Sorcha, Heather, Esmeralda, Emily, Tracey, Paula, Katya, Alric, Gunther, Thorwulf, Mark, Reinmar, Faolan, Tim, Kenn and Joshua. Your help made this demo a success. If I forgot to mention anyone or if I mentioned you, but mangled your name..."sorry".

In Service, I Remain
Jorka

PS Remember "Demo = Fun" <G>

PPS Don't forget the upcoming AEthelmearc Academy. The class schedule has quite a few interesting things listed. Newcomers should especially take note.

The Barony of St. Swithin’s Bog’s Annual 12th Night

January 22, 2005

Barony of St. Swithin's Bog
(Jennerstown, PA)

The Barony of St. Swithin's Bog extends a heart-felt invitation to the Knowne World for our annual 12th Night Celebration to be held Saturday, January 22, 2005, at Green Gables in Jennerstown, PA (no street address). This is our traditional site, a quite period-looking hall with stone walls, giant tree-trunk columns holding up a cathedral ceiling, parquet floors and vine-covered mullioned windows.

Come spend the day feasting, relaxing and enjoying time with friends old and new. This year will feature an all day munchie sideboard prepared by the Bog’s finest cooks with heartier dishes appearing at noon and in the early evening, plus desserts, of course! We will also be holding a Chinese auction of select, prearranged items (so please do not bring auction items as there will be no auction discount). Each gentle will receive one auction ticket at the door with their site fee. Additional tickets will be available for purchase at a nominal cost (so you can buy lots!) Drawing for all items will be held after Royal and Baronial courts.

Doors will open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 9:00 p.m. As Green Gables is a commercial restaurant with a liquor license, no alcohol can be brought on site; however, the restaurant will provide a cash bar.

Autocrat for the event is Baroness Charmaine of Falkensee (Sally C. Fink, 331 Penn Ave., Johnstown, PA 15905; 814-255-5176; sphink@twd.net) with Lucia Snorrisdottir (Lisa Wagner, 1600 Bedford St., Apt. D, Johnstown, PA 15902, 814-266-1248) as co-autocrat. (No calls after 8 p.m. at either phone, please.)

Your cost for a day of scrumptious food and hearty fellowship is $15.00. (The $3.00 non-member surcharge will be collected at the door. Please do not include it as part of your reservations.) All halflings (12 and under) will be $7.00. Make checks payable to "SCA, Inc.-St. Swithin's Bog." The only reservation is a PAID reservation; these should be mailed to the reservations clerk: THL Cynthia Loved of Tower (Cynthia J. Chapple, 1945 Florida Ave., Johnstown, PA 15902; 814-266-1347, thlcynthiake@floodcity.net. Calls only between 6 and 8 p.m., please). Deadline for paid reservations is JANUARY 15, 2005.
