A Message From Baroness Charmaine

Baroness Charmaine

Greetings and welcome to the Barony of St. Swithin's Bog! I am Baroness Charmaine, first Baroness of St. Swithin's Bog, the newest Barony in AEthelmearc. Although our group has been around since the early 1980's, we just became a Barony in 1998. We have always been known for our good times and our friendliness, and we invite you to join us.

There is much to do in the Bog, so please browse our web site and learn a little about us. The Society for Creative Anachronism, and St. Swithin's Bog in particular, has much to offer. If you have any kind of interest in the European Middle Ages and the Renaissance, then we are the place to be.

Members of the Bog are constantly doing, making and studying various aspects of medieval culture. Just of few of these fields are: clothing, headwear, cooking, brewing, herbalism, jewelry, woodworking, calligraphy and illumination, painting, heraldry, and dancing. In addition we are proud to be well-rounded in martial activities which include armored combat, fencing, thrown weapons and archery. Participants in the martial arts are also involved in metalwork and armoring, including the making of weapons such as swords, knives, arrows, bows, and fencing equipment.

Presently there are four guilds in the Bog: Cooking, Calligraphy, Sewing and Leatherworking. Plus we have a regular Arts and Science night, and a regular meeting and practice hall, the times and places of which can be found on the calendar page of this site.

Welcome to the Current Middle Ages!
