From the Baron & Baroness

The dark hand of war has passed yet again. By the fate's good graces we have returned home safe and unscathed. The Dragon of the Middle Kingdom has been crushed and thrown back toward the setting sun while the Raven remains strong and defiant giving ground to no one. This year's Pennsic war saw a remarkable effort from the Bog. From the battle fields to the feast halls to market streets and even the Great Courts of our Sylvan kingdom the Barony stood proud. We can not fully thank everyone for their incredible effort. No words seem sufficient to express our gratitude. We can only say that we remain proud to be Boggers!

Pas pour vous, pas pour moi, mais pour nous

From the Seneschale

Greetings

I'm writing this missive prior to departing for Pennsic. I know we have all had a wonderful time in spite of the (circle one) rain, cold or heat.
The Baronial Dinner was a resounding success! As was our Gobi night(s). Raven company again showed its might and power on the Fencing list, Battle field, and on the Archery and Thrown Weapons ranges.

Upcoming events to mark on your calendars:

An officers Meeting on September 7th at 7pm at our home, 327 Martin Road, Johnstown. As always officer meetings are open to the populous of the Bog.
Our Next Baronial Business Meeting will be held on September 12th, 6pm at HGA.
And again mark your calendars for November 6th as our Incipient Canton will be hosting AEthelmearc AEcademy in Greensburg.

Until we next meet if you have any questions or comments, you may contact me at cindleap@atlanticbb.net or call me at 814-536-0045 before 10pm.

In Service and In Peace I remain
Katya

From the Chronicler

Greetings all,

The Pennsic War is over and the East and AEthelmearc were victorious. As we all know, Pennsic is a large event (over 11000 people attended this year), and it’s impossible to be everywhere at once, in addition there are many people unable to attend. Thus, the October issue of the Sentinel will feature stories, poems, etc. about memorable experiences - from the funny to the touching. If you have something to share, please send it to me by the September 15th deadline. Stories from previous years are also welcome!
As always, if you have any submissions or suggestions or artwork for the cover or as inside filler, please contact me, Cait (aka Kathleen) at 724-238-0114 (if you get the answering machine, please leave a message) or bogchronicler@yahoo.com.

In service to crown and bog,
Lady Caitilin "Cait" ni Mhaolconaire

From the Chatelain

Greetings fellow Boggers,

"Why don't we do a demo in our northern area, like we do in the South at Green Gables?"
That is the question I have been asked by several of you. Some of you who live in the northern area have offered suggestions of parks or fields that might be suitable. Most agree that something in the Ebensburg area would be best. Since it would be centrally located and there is easy access from the main highway.
Well, we all know I love demos. So, I have spoken to various local officials seeking a demo location, but all of them wanted to charge us a fee to use their parks. I explained that we were a nonprofit organization and that we don't charge a fee to the public to see us. At best, some of them offered us a reduced rate. So, I kept looking.
Well, guess what. I think I found the perfect place.
     Lake Rowena Park
If you live in our northern area, I'm sure you are familiar with Lake Rowena. But, for those Boggers unfamiliar with the park, allow me to tell you a little about it. There is a small lake, surrounded by a relatively flat grassy area. There are three open sided pavilions, a ball field and gravel parking lot. The park sits directly off the highway, (you basically take the exit off of Rt. 22 and there is the park). Yet, because of how the park is situated, the highway isn't visible. Instead, there is a background of trees. And of course, there is no charge for us to use it.
I was thinking that we could do a Sunday afternoon demo, (just like Green Gables); early in October. I met with the Borough Manager and the Community Development Director, and both were very interested in us doing a demo. All I need to do is tell them what day we want and we can have the park. The Mainline newspapers are also interested in doing a story about the SCA, which would run the week before our demo. (By the way, if you live in the northern area and would like to be mentioned in the newspaper article, contact me. The newspapers love to be able to add that "local person involved in this organization" slant to their story.)
Now, all I need to know is "when". Like I said at the beginning of this, I would like something along the lines of our Green Gables Demo. Sunday, start at around noon, run to about 4pm. Have display tables set up. Little fighting, little fencing, little music, maybe thrown weapons, there is room for even archery.
Which day would be best this demo? It's only Aug now, so we have time; (but, not too much time <G>). So, lets hear it, are we a "go" for this and if so, when?

Jorka

Country Market Demo

Help! All available citizens of the Barony and Canton, please come out and
play with as we do our first official demo as an Incipient Canton!

The demo will run from 7:00 a.m. till Noon, on Saturday, September 4th in Ligonier. We plan to display photos, information, and items such as armor, a cloak, feast gear. If you are unable to attend, but have anything to contribute for displaying please contact me (Cait at 724-238-0114 or snowdragon1027@yahoo.com).

There is also plenty of room to rope off for heavy weapons and fencing. Bardic demonstrations are encouraged! Anyone working on a project, bring it to work on. If you require anything special, please contact me ASAP.

The Market typically has a good turn out, and the majority of people arrive around 7 a.m., but participants are welcome to arrive at any point in the morning. The Market will provide us with a tarp, but we need to bring our own tables and chairs.

Anyone wishing to participate or willing to help out, please contact Lady Cait (724-238-0114; or snowdragon1027@yahoo.com).

The Market is just off Route 30. We’ll be near the back, where there’s more room should any fencers or fighters turn up.

From the West: make your best way to route 30 follow to Ligonier, at the first turn (just past the Welcome to Ligonier sign) make a left, as you cross over the West-bound lane of 30 you will see the Market in front of you. Turn left at the 2nd road - just before a little bridge - and another left into the Market.

From the North: make your best way to route 711S. At the stop sign at the Diamond, go all the way around to West Main Street (between Diamond shops and the Library). Follow to Quick G’s, cross a little bridge (you’ll see Market ahead), make a right, and make left into parking lot.

From the East: make your best way to route 30. Follow to Ligonier at 4th turn into Ligonier (the first being near Ruthie’s Dinner), make right, make left at 2nd road - just before a little bridge - and another left into parking lot.
